Innovation & Technology

$100 / year (Annual Review)

Badge Description:

For programs that immerse learners in hands-on STEM experiences, blending coding, robotics, and/or digital creativity to spark curiosity and prepare kids for a tech-forward world.

Eligibility Criteria:

To earn the Innovation & Technology badge, providers must demonstrate a commitment to STEM learning through the following:

Required Components (Must meet all):

  • STEM-Focused Instruction: Curriculum or programming must focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, and/or Math concepts.

  • Hands-On Technology Use: Students actively use technology such as computers, robotics kits, 3D printers, or coding platforms.

  • Problem-Solving or Innovation Tasks: Includes real-world challenges, design thinking, or project-based tech activities.

  • Student-Centered Creation: Learners produce digital or physical outputs such as games, animations, apps, models, or circuits.

  • Supervised and Age-Appropriate Tech Integration: All technology use is developmentally appropriate and actively facilitated by trained staff.

Suggested Qualifiers (At least 2 recommended):

  • Coding Projects – Students build websites, games, or apps (e.g., using Scratch, Python).

  • Robotics Exploration – Hands-on work with robots or sensors (e.g., LEGO, VEX, Sphero).

  • Engineering Design – Bridge building, circuit design, or mechanical prototypes.

  • Digital Media Creation – Podcasting, video editing, graphic design, or animation.

  • Tech Competitions – Participation in coding, robotics, or maker challenges.

  • AI or Data Science Concepts – Intro to algorithms, machine learning, or data analysis.

  • 3D Design or Printing – Students create and print digital models or prototypes.

  • Maker Movement Activities – DIY tech, upcycled electronics, or hands-on inventing.
