Badge Description:

Given to programs that nurture essential life skills—like communication and teamwork - for environments where students grow into confident, capable leaders.

Eligibility Criteria:

To earn the Leadership & Life Skills Badge, providers must demonstrate a commitment to intentional development of interpersonal and practical skills through the following:

Required Components (Must meet all):

  • Group Collaboration or Team-Based Learning:
    Students regularly work together on projects, activities, or problem-solving tasks that encourage cooperation, shared responsibility, and respectful communication.

  • Leadership Development Opportunities:
    Program includes structured opportunities for students to lead, such as peer mentoring, role rotation, student-led activities, or responsibility-based roles.

  • Real-Life Application of Skills:
    Lessons include practical life skills like conflict resolution, goal setting, budgeting, time management, organization, decision-making, or entrepreneurship.

  • Intentional Curriculum or Structure:
    Program uses a clear method, curriculum, or structured routine to intentionally teach leadership and life skills (not solely behavior modeling or discipline).

  • Safe, Supportive Environment:
    Staff foster emotional safety, mutual respect, and encourage personal growth through positive reinforcement and open dialogue.

Suggested Qualifiers (At least 2 recommended):

  • Mentorship or Peer Leadership – Older or more experienced students guide peers through buddy systems or collaborative projects.

  • Roleplay & Scenario Practice – Simulated challenges to develop leadership, teamwork, or real-life decision-making.

  • Time & Task Management – Use of planners, calendars, or apps to build independence and responsibility.

  • Etiquette & Service – Training in social skills, respect, conflict resolution, and acts of service or hospitality.

  • Financial or Entrepreneurial Projects – Activities like budgeting, mock businesses, student-run ventures, or fundraising.

  • Public Speaking & Presentation – Regular opportunities to speak, present, or share ideas in structured settings.

  • Conflict Resolution Training – Practice in respectful communication, mediation, and cooperation during disagreements.

  • Decision-Making Challenges – Workshops or competitions where students evaluate options, lead teams, and take initiative.
