Eligibility Criteria:

To earn the Nature Love & Harmony badge, programs must demonstrate a commitment to nature-based learning through the following:

Required Components (Must meet all):

  • In-Person Outdoor Activities: Regularly scheduled, supervised outdoor sessions that take place in natural settings (e.g., gardens, farms, forests, parks).

  • Nature or Farm-Based Curriculum: A clear outline or documentation of how nature, environmental science, or farm activities are used for learning or personal development.

  • Hands-On Ecosystem Experiences: Children must engage in sensory, seasonal, or scientific interaction with plants, animals, weather, water, soil, or similar natural systems.

  • Emphasis on Responsibility and Stewardship: Activities or practices that promote care for living things (e.g., gardening, composting, animal tending, clean-up routines).

  • No Screens or Digital Media Use During Nature Time: Unless directly used to enhance outdoor learning (e.g., identifying birds or plant species), technology is limited or excluded during nature sessions.

Suggested Qualifiers (At least 2 recommended):

  • Sensory Nature Play: Activities that engage all five senses outdoors—like mud kitchens or barefoot walks.

  • Journaling or Reflection: Use of nature journaling, drawing, or observation logs to encourage reflection and connection.

  • Seasonal & Weather-Based Learning: Programs that teach awareness of seasonal cycles, weather patterns, moon phases, or gardening by the calendar.

  • Animal Interaction: Live animal care or education (e.g., chickens, goats, fish tanks).

  • Exploration Skills: Activities that build real-world nature skills like navigation, tracking, or survival basics.

  • Eco-Themed Creative Expression: Arts, storytelling, or performances inspired by nature and the environment.

  • Farm-to-Table Education: Teaching how food is grown, harvested, and prepared with a focus on healthy, natural living.

  • Sustainability Practices: Instruction in composting, gardening, harvesting, or eco-conscious habits.
