Banner Description:

This banner recognizes programs that prioritize student safety through clear planning, staff training, and consistent implementation of emergency and wellness procedures. It gives families confidence that a secure and prepared environment is in place.

Eligibility Criteria:

To be awarded the Verified Safety Banner, a program must meet all of the following:

1. Written Safety Plan on File

The program maintains a written safety or emergency response plan outlining daily routines, emergency protocols, and responses to potential risks (e.g., injury, fire, weather, intruders).

2. Staff Training in Emergency Procedures

All staff receive annual training (at minimum) on emergency procedures, including evacuation, lockdown, and first aid. Training may be conducted in-house or via an external provider.

3. Daily Safety Practices & Supervision

Programs demonstrate safe practices during arrival, dismissal, transitions, outdoor time, and field trips. Adult supervision is consistent, adequate, and attentive to prevent accidents or incidents.

4. On-Site Safety Equipment

The program maintains readily accessible safety tools, such as:
• First aid kit
• Fire extinguisher
• Emergency contact list
• Shelter or shade for weather safety
• Sign-in/out logs or secure digital check-in

5. Incident Reporting & Documentation

All injuries, behavioral incidents, or emergencies are documented and shared with families when appropriate. Providers demonstrate timely responses and keep records for safety tracking.

6. Emotional Safety Practices

The plan includes strategies to support emotional well-being, such as calm-down techniques, clear behavior expectations, anti-bullying practices, and safe, respectful interaction policies.

Note: ParentApproved.org may conduct audits to confirm requirements are met. Providers that do not meet the criteria during these audits may have their badge/banner suspended or revoked until compliance is restored.
